newsic:MIX:1 | Bondax

newsic:MIX:1

When my ears first pinpointed a track called ‘Just Smile For Me‘ back in May, I was blown away by the textures, arrangement, vocal and stunning production. I found it to be produced by little known duo Bondax, and upon hearing the name I eagerly scoped the information motorway to learn some more. Alas, limited information was available and what was available didn’t carry much weight or depth. At that time, they remained a mystery to me.

Age doesn’t really mean anything when you’re sitting back, eyes closed, willfully allowing the effects of astounding beats and melodies to cripple the alignment of spirit within. However, what should be taken from their respective 17 years is inspiration; the way in which they must analyse and consume music and effectively put that to use in their own productions is something to aspire to.

It’s a pleasure then to find out a little bit more about the Lancaster duo and report back more than just their age; it feels as though I’ve caught them before they catch the mass attention of the industry.

In addition to their interview, we are pleased to announce that our inaugural exclusive newscimoos mix series is to be kicked off by them – newsic:MIX:1 – which you can enjoy and download below. Get to know and thank Bondax.

newsicmoos (nm): Hello! Please introduce yourselves and let us know what’s been going on in the past week.

Bondax (B): We’re Bondax, an electronic music duo consisting of George Townsend and Adam Kaye, we come from Lancaster, a small city north of Manchester. The past week we’ve really just been trying to finish off our next EP and other remixes and chilling with our mates around and about as we’re currently in our summer holidays.

nm: Dry question! But where does your name come from?

B: Our name is a weird one, which we often get asked about. Bondax as a word means nothing, however that’s kind of the point. We won’t go fully into how the word came about but we decided to keep the name as a word to almost describe our music, you google our name, you think of the word there is only one definition and that is…us.

nm: You guys are new to the scene – how would you best describe your sound?

B: It’s hard to pigeonhole, we try to create a style of music with depth and without being too much of a copy of any particular influences. It fluctuates a lot from tune to tune, we sometimes make clubby stuff like our remix of Marco Del Horno but at the same time we make really chilled stuff like All I Want, we tend to just flow with our ideas which usually ends in a mix of up beat and chilled sounds largely influenced by deep house and garage.

nm: Where or who do you take inspiration from for your music?

B: We take obvious influence from modern producers like mount kimbie, joy orbison, Julio bashmore and the like. However, we do look back into a lot of UK garage and also take influence from our hugely contrasting musical backgrounds.

nm: Ultimately what do you want to achieve through Bondax?

B: The main thing we want to do is make a good living out of our music, it’s both something we love doing and so we’d love to just make music and DJ all the time. We want to keep making interesting and original music that we enjoy making and other people enjoy listening to. It’d be sick to put out an LP in a few years time.

nm: Has Lancaster had any effect on your music? What’s your experience of the music scene there?

B: Lancaster and the countryside we live in isn’t somewhere that’s renowned for good music and certainly doesn’t have a good club scene. For that reason I don’t really think that Lancaster has effected our music at all, its just the area we grew up in, I’d like to think we’d be making the same music even if we lived somewhere else, although the subconscious effect may be greater than we choose to believe. We’re excited to embrace a new place with a more diverse music scene.

nm: We featured your track ‘Just Smile For Me’ on the site and we love it. How does the response make you feel?

B: It’s good to have lots of positive feedback because it motivates us to keep making this style of music that we both love. We hope that our forthcoming releases get the same response.

nm: Name 3 tracks you’re currently feeling.

B: I Need You (Kidnap Kid Remix) – CDBL. Into The Valley feat. Karl Dixon (Julio Bashmore Remix) – Classixx. Feelin’ – Medla (Watch out for this guy)

nm: What’s in store for you guys?

B: We should be DJing more towards the end of this year, we also have a lot of new original stuff and remixes coming out over the next few months

ns: And finally, tell us a little bit about the exclusive mix you’ve put together for newsicmoos…

B: We’ve made a 30 minute summer mix for you that ranges from house to more garagey stuff. Hope you enjoy it.

We'd like to thank Bondax for speaking to us and supplying quite an excellent start to the newsic:MIX series. Support them through facebook & soundcloud. Be sure to share via the social buttons below. Peace.
