MCR ARTS: BMC Presents The Projector Series

So I’ve been at Blank Media Collective for about 4 months now and I am loving it there. I’ve been working with some really great artists and creative people creating exhibitions and events at BLANKSPACE. So now we’ve decided it's time for Blank Media Collective to step outside the space and into the city. This summer we are bringing you an exciting new programming with the BMC Projector Series!

This is a program of exhibitions featuring contemporary artists from across the UK in collaboration with creative spaces all over the city. This summer, Projector I, II and III will see BMC take over three of Manchester and Salford’s finest establishments: Sandbar, The Kings Arms and The Salutation Inn. The artists will be creating their works by responding to the individual spaces through the means of live art, installations and film.

Projector I: Live Art Performance at The Salutation Inn
Venue: 12 Higher Chatham Street, M15 6ED
Artists: Kev Munday and Dirty Work
Dates: Launches 26 July 2012 from 6pm - FREE

Come and join in with the artist to create a interactive graffiti mural on the side of one of the walls of the Salutation Inn with Hayley from Dirty Work. Dirty Work is a wicked little urban art supply shop in Affleck's Palace who also promote and sell local urban artists work in their shop. The guys are all artists themselves, they hold regular workshops around the city teaching people the technique used in street art, and have even created an graffiti piece on wood canvas for newsicmoos's launch party back in March!

Whilst Hayley is doing her work you can also watch the artist Kev Mundy transforming the outside space with his unique urban designs with a four hour live art performance. Kev’s goal as an artist is to ‘show his work to as many sets of eyes as possible’ - his work can be seen on walls, t-shirts and exhibition spaces all over the world.

There will also be music by Manchester DJ Jazzbo (Lake of Stars, Creamfields, V Festival, Kendal Calling, Standon Calling, Isle of White Festival, Chibuku).

Come and join the artists and BMC for a drink at the start of their new exciting summer of programming at The Salutation Inn.

Projector II: Video at Sandbar
Venue: 120 Grosvenor Street, M1 7HL
Artists: Jessica Ball, Matt Smith & Stephanie Imbeau
Date: Mid-season event on 16th August 2012 from 6pm - FREE

Projector II features video installations from artists Jessica Ball, Matt Smith and Stephanie Imbeau. Their works will be projected onto the walls, screens and in hidden spaces around the premises at Sandbar. Expect to see hypnotic visuals fragmented objects of desire and bewitching works.

The 16th August is the mid season event where BMC will be transforming Sandbar into a cinematic playground and inviting the public in for a film screening event with a difference.

Projector III: Installation at The King’s Arms
Venue: 11 Bloom St, Salford, M3 6AN
Artist: Greg Thomas
Date: End of Season event on 6th September from 6pm - FREE

Gregs Thomas’s works confronts viewers with an unsettling re-structuring of structures, engaging not only with the architecture, but also with our assumptions about the strength and stability of community. Greg will be creating his structure in and around The King’s Arms drawing inspiration for his work from the possibilities suggested by the space itself.

On the 6th September at the end of season event we will be topping off an amazing summer of Projector series exhibitions and events. We are encouraging people to come along and meet the artist and the BMC team.

All works will be available for public view from 26th July to 23rd September so make sure you don’t miss out, it’s going to be a summer event to remember!
